Mary Mary vs Bebe and Cece Winans, a fantastic way to celebrate resurrection Sunday on VERZUZ

He is alive!! What a fantastic way to celebrate resurrection Sunday. Mary Mary vs Bebe and Cece Winans had it all. There was humorous banter, great vibes, and the respect and aspirations of the award-winning Artists that ran very deep. Having the ‘anointing’ seems to be an old skool way of thinking, however, every song was tailored to have the holy spirit guiding the lyrical content for the listeners. It was apparent that both sets had written their songs with a passion fueled by experiences and relying on the presence of God.

Live from Los Angeles, the night started with DJ Mal-Ski who was pumped for the battle- got the crowd ready by playing hits by Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, and John PeeKee. The ambiance was set, translucent spotlights flickered on the walls, and created a beautiful display.

Kevonstage took to the stage as host and interviewed James Pickens JR and Bebe Winans, asking them how they anticipated the evening events would pan out. Pastor Warryn Campbell from California worship center, who too is Erica Campbell’s husband added sentimental value by saying the opening prayer for the magnificent event.

Mary Mary wore matching hot pinks and reflected the season with added fashionistas detail with ruffle sleeves on Erica and a maxi trilby hat worn by Tina. Bebe stood out in his gold embellishments on his black jacket suit which matched his competitive side. Cece smiled beautifully throughout, she wore a red/burnt orange wide-legged trouser number and her elegance shone throughout.

There were some oh-so-special guests throughout the evening, including Devon Franklin, Flex Alexander, and Alesha Renee. Stevie Wonder made a speech ending the event and mentioned that this was a great way to celebrate resurrection Sunday and concluded it officially was a tie. They sang along to hit songs such as ‘Destiny’ by Tina, ‘Can’t Believe’ by Mary Mary, ‘Addictive Love’ by Bebe and Cece, ‘Count on me’ with Cece and Whitney, and ‘Hold up the Light’ with Whitney and the dynamite duo. The night flowed with slow and upbeat music, entertaining the crowd throughout.

With Bebe and Cece’s awards equalling three grammy awards, nine dove awards, two NAACP image awards, two soul train awards, three gold albums, one platinum album, and Mary Mary have been nominated for eleven Grammy Awards, winning four. This versus was perfect not only because it was siblings versus siblings but also because the quality of their voices and showmanship came second to none. Having one awesome duo executing timeless and well-structured music giving honor to God would have been enough but, you got two ‘should have been there’ concerts in one spectacular show.

To witness so much history and music that gives glory to God was truly something that added to the Easter Special being so special. We thank VERZUZ for showcasing an event such as this for the Gospel arena. Displaying love, respect, professionalism, and harmony, both parties uplifted each other and assisted in singing each other’s songs, which was beautiful to see. We definitely look forward to the next versus, to see what VERZUZ has up their sleeves.
