How do you keep going in the face of steep opposition? And how do you do it in confidence?
The song ‘Victory’ was inspired by a friend at a church community gathering. She had been talking about a dire situation with a dear friend who was on chemotherapy with a poor prognosis. This friend had young children and wasn’t a christian. You could see how emotionally burdened she was. So, we started praying for all of the different prayer points that had been raised. When it was her turn to pray, she started by saying, ‘we stand in the place of victory’.
I found this striking for a couple of reasons. Perspective is everything. She was in the situation she was faced with, but she also still saw and held on to the finished work of the cross. Also, she didn’t only see it, she verbalised it, and took on the posture of unshakeable faith in the goodness of God. Sometimes that’s all you can do, believe that through all of the heartbreak that you see around you, God is still sovereign and working out His plan for you.
