Ten student choirs from all over the UK shortlisted as finalists will be gathering on Saturday 22nd March in South London to perform at the University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) competition. Inspired by the film ‘Sister Act’, expect an evening filled with laughter, entertainment and excitement for everyone who loves good music.
University Gospel Choir of the Year, founded in 2011 by Lorraine Wright MBE, provides an opportunity for uni gospel choirs to perform in front of formidable judges before an interactive live audience. This unique event unites students and audience alike in an uplifting atmosphere of music and praise.
The University Gospel Choir of the Year will be held at Oasis House, Croydon CR0 3EX on Saturday 22nd March 2025 with doors open from 6pm. Early bird tickets are now available on Eventbrite. Join us for an evening of fun and excitement!
With entries flooding in from across the UK, the following choirs have been shortlisted to compete in the live finals:
The Revival Gospel Choir – University of Leicester
Returning as our golden save, this choir is known for its powerful harmonies and uplifting performances.
BIMM Birmingham Gospel Choir – BIMM Birmingham
Last year’s winners are back to defend their title, bringing their signature energy and vocal excellence.
Portsmouth Gospel Choir – University of Portsmouth
With captivating performances and innovative arrangements, this choir has won the hearts of audiences and judges alike.
Kent Gospel Choir – University of Kent
Celebrated for their soulful voices and impactful creativity, they’re ready to shine on the UGCY stage.
Keele University Gospel Choir (KUGC) – Keele University
Known for their dynamic stage presence and emotional connection, KUGC is a force to be reckoned with.
Warwick Gospel Choir – University of Warwick
As one of the most vibrant choirs, their unique approach to gospel music will undoubtedly electrify the finals.
Kings College Gospel Choir – King’s College London
With their harmonious vocals and creative expression, this choir brings a touch of elegance to the competition.
University of Birmingham Gospel Choir (UOB Gospel Choir) – University of Birmingham A powerhouse of talent, their performances are a perfect blend of passion and precision.
Canterbury Christ Church Gospel Choir – Canterbury Christ Church University A choir celebrated for their artistic authenticity and connection to the audience.
BIMM London Gospel Choir – BIMM London
With crystal clear harmonies, bringing the national entries from BIMM up to two choirs for a heated competition.
Making their mark with fresh energy and innovative performances, the choirs are busily preparing to inspire with a winning performance. Choir practice brings a welcome break from exams while building a strong sense of community and belonging.
These choirs have been selected after a rigorous judging process that included both expert scores and social media input, ensuring a diverse and inclusive lineup. UGCY judges have previously included Karen Gibson MBE, Founder of Kingdom Choir amongst a plethora of world-class choir & vocal professionals. This year’s judging panel will be announced shortly.

UGCY 2024 is in partnership with AStepFWD, a multi-media platform organisation now in its eleventh year, that curates the monthly UK Christian Charts (the only national independent music charting system in the UK) along with initiatives such as the annual StepFWD Awards along with many other trailblazing initiatives.
