‘Over the Wall’ is written as a love letter from God to remind those who may be struggling with low self-image, insecurities or low self esteem, about their value in Him. In a world where media (and social media) pushes its own negative representations on us, lowering our view of ourselves, or sometimes the season we are going through affects us in such a way that we don’t even want to face the day.
It’s important to know our value and how precious we are to God and walk in the words He speaks over His creation. Writing these truths, ‘Over the Wall’ is a great way to keep them at the forefront of our minds.
After releasing the official single on August 2019, Ruth-Ellen launched the Refix challenge, getting fellow creative’s to re-imagine the song. Born and raised in South London, the soulful singer/songwriter Ruth-Ellen, independently pursues her passion for soulful music. Growing up listening to soul, Gospel and jazz, Ruth-Ellen fuses these traditional styles with more contemporary styles of Neo-soul and R&B, naturally creating soulful lyrics, vibrant melodies and jazzy harmonies.
These influences have developed into a distinctive sound, called ‘Soft Soul’.Ruth-Ellen has performed on a number of different stages across the UK and Europe including the Camberwell Fair festival, Creation Fest, Boxpark, Camden Assembly, O2 Islington and The Bedford.2017 saw the release of Ruth-Ellen’s most recent project ‘Between Two Worlds’ which was executively produced by André Fisher, with other productions from Nathan Headley.
‘Between Two Worlds’ looks into her purpose and destiny and the struggles faced, balancing mental health whilst pursuing her dreams. The project shares stories about her life which resonates with listeners on a personal level also expressed through visuals from lead singles ‘Glow’, ‘40 40 home’ and ‘Our Love’, which can be found on YouTube.Following the release, Ruth-Ellen hosts intimate evenings of live music and poetry known as ‘Ruth-Ellen & Friends’ (REAF) – a showcase with an open mic segment. The platform creates opportunities for collaboration and networking for creative’s.
