In tribute to Black History Month, UK singer/songwriter, Junior Garr has announced a spectacular televised performance in celebration of black music & culture.  Junior has reimagined the spiritual anthem “Wade in the Water”, for a performance which will bring together a gospel choir called ‘The Spirituals’ that can only be compared to the likes of Kanye West’s Sunday Service.

Hailing from London, Junior Garr is an artist who combines his passion for creativity, culture, music and art with his fervent faith.  This visual performance for Black History Month follows the hugely successful release of his EP ‘The Garden’ of which the single ‘Waters’ has already reached 2 million streams on Spotify, within just one year.

The “Black Lives Matter” protests earlier this year have proven that there is a need for positive voices to be heard and more light to be shed amongst the turbulent circumstances that have surrounded the news over the previous months. For this reason, Junior Garr has been inspired to bring people together to raise their voices in unity and celebrate black lives, both historic and present.

Commenting on the project, Junior said: “This is a collection of negro spirituals and songs that have inspired and championed the story and of black people.  With all that is happening in the world today there has never been a better time for the power of music to bring us together.  This is a commemoration of not only our breakthrough and achievements but also an acknowledgement of the continuous pain and sorrow experienced by Black people today”.

“We must find a way to foster and fight for the justice and equality of Black individuals everywhere. Justice and the good news go hand in hand.” – Junior Continued.

Juniors catalogue of genre-crossing music has been developed over years spent within the Christian music community. Having been a key creative leader in both the UK and USA, Junior’s has lead spiritual movements such as ‘The Selah Sessions’ which were widely supported around the world.

In addition to the performance, Junior is joined by some major players within the music industry for exclusive and in-depth educational interviews about Black History in the UK. Musician and singer – Noel Robinson, director of the Kingdom Choir – Karen Gibson, musician – Lawrence Johnson and producer – Nicky Brown, share their personal experiences of how the history of Black culture in the UK has shaped their own lives and the lives of their families.

This 30-40-minute performance has been filmed in stages to abide within the current social distancing regulations and will be premiered by the Christian television network – TBN UK, on the 21st October 2020. TBN UK is a local division of the global TBN network who are watched by over 26 million worldwide. To watch the performance on television, TBN UK can be found on Freeview channel 65, SKY channel 582 or find Junior online at: http://juniorgarr.com/
